I split this up into two posts to make things easier. The actual document guide will live here, and the project to automate it all with live at the other link.

Below is a guide to automating the download and update of your torrents via Sickbeard, UTorrent, WinRar and Plex. If you follow the steps below its almost foolproof.

Install Python:

  • Download Python 2 (Note: Python 3 won't work with Sickbeard) Install Python.

  • Download Setup-tools and install it.

  • Click Windows key + Pause. Click on 'Advanced system', go to the 'Advanced' tab and click 'Environment variables'.

  • Find 'Path' in the 'System variables' box, click 'Edit' and add at the end of the text: “;C:Program FilesPython” (Without the quotes.) (Or whatever directory where you installed Python - remember the semi-colon).

Install Cheetah:

  • Download Cheetah under 'recent stable release' and open the .zip file.

  • Extract the folder from the .zip file to your C: disk, and rename it to 'Cheetah'. Overwrite any files that you are prompted by (e.g. cheetah.h and Cheetah.h).

  • Go to 'Start' and click on 'Run..' type in: cmd and click Enter.

  • Type: cd c:cheetah -- click Enter, then type in: python setup.py install

Install Sickbeard:

  • Download Sickbeard.

  • Extract from the .ZIP file to 'C:UsersUSERNAMESick-Beard'.

  • Right-click on 'SickBeard.py', choose 'Properties', click 'Open with..' and click 'Browse..', and find 'python.exe' in the Python directory (e.g. C:/Program Files/Python).

  • Create a shortcut of 'SickBeard.py' to your desktop.

Install uTorrent:

  • Download it.

  • Open uTorrent, go to 'Options', then 'Preferences', expand 'Advanced' and click on 'WebUI'.

  • Tick 'Enable WebUI' and enter username and password by your choice. Tick 'Alternative listening port' and type in 8082 (if you don't already use it, that is).

  • Go to 'Connection' and remove 'Randomize port each start'.

  • Go to “Directories” in the options.

  • Give a path for both “Put new Downloads in” and “Move completed downloads to”.

  • Under advanced go to “Run Program”.

  • Paste the following into the “Run this program when a torrent finishes.

  • 'C:Program FilesWinRARWinRAR.exe' x -ibck '%D*' 'E:Processing'

  • If your WinRAR is not in that path, obviously change it. The “E:Processing” needs to be the same folder Sickbeard will use for processing.

Configure Sickbeard:

  • Open 'Sickbeard' on your desktop, and go to Config > Search Settings

  • In the section 'Episode Search' section, type in: 10 in 'Search Frequency'.

  • Check “Download Propers”.

  • Check “Prefer Episode releases”.

  • Uncheck 'Search NZBs'.

  • In the section 'Torrent Search', tick 'Search Torrents' and choose 'uTorrent' in TORRENT Method.

  • Type in: http://localhost:8082/ in 'uTorrent Host' (if 8082 is the port you use as alternative port in WebUI).

  • Input the username and password you chose in WebUI in uTorrent in 'uTorrent Username' and 'uTorrent Password'. Then click on 'Save Changes'.

  • Click on the 'Search Providers' tab, and tick “Iptorrents”. Click save Changes.

  • Under configure built in providers, choose IPtorrents from the dropdown.

  • Put in your IPT username and password and your RSS UID. (You get this by logging in to IPT and clicking RSS.)

  • Click Save Changes.

  • Click the Post Processing tab.

  • Put in the path that you put in for step 4.h in UTorrent.

  • Uncheck Keep original files.

  • Do not check Move associated files.

  • Check Rename episodes.

  • Check Scan and Process.

  • Click Save changes.

  • Under the naming section choose “Custom” for name pattern.

  • Depending on how you organize your files, you will need to put the pattern in here appropriately. For example. I use something like.

  • D:TV Shows

  • D:TV ShowsArrow

  • D:TV ShowsArrowSeason 3

  • D:TV ShowsArrowSeason 3S02E01 – EpisodeNameHere.mkv

  • If your format is like this, you can put the following in the name pattern box.

  • Season %S/S%0SE%0E - %EN

  • Click Save Changes.

Take a deep breath. Everything is setup. Now it’s time to add the shows!

  • If you already have shows downloaded that you want Sickbeard to monitor…

  • Go to Home: Then Add Shows.

  • Click Add Existing Shows

  • Under Manage Directories, click new.

  • Provide the root folder that all of your show structure starts with. In the format I gave above that would be D:TV Shows.

  • Hit OK

  • Check all of the TV shows that you want to manage with Sickbeard.

  • Hit Submit.

  • Sickbeard will then go one by one and get all of your shows. You will need to verify each one is the one you want. Once it is, hit add show.

  • Once you are done it will take you back to the home screen. All your shows will be loading. Take a 5 minute break and wait.

  • Click Manage on the top bar.

  • Click the Edit button at the top left to select all shows.

  • Hit edit selected.

  • Choose your Quality and hit submit.

All of your shows are now added. It is on you to go through and set old episodes you don’t have or don’t want to ignore so the Download count shows correct. Once that is done you can hit “Manage” then “Mass Update”.

It’s going to grab all the shows episodes you have marked as wanted to fill in your catalog. It will add them directly to uTorrent. Once uTorrent is done, it will autounrar them and move the files to the processing folder where Sickbeard will scan, rename and migrate them to the TV show folders.

Voila, it’s now automated.
