81089 - Is there a way to clean a CardScan 700c, 600cx, 600c, 500, 300x, or 300 plus scanners?

Windows will not recognize scanner running Windows XP 64-Bit Edition
Product Class:
CardScan All Versions
Operating System:
Windows XP 64-Bit Edition
Creation Date:
12/02/2005
Last Modified Date:12/02/2005

Problem:

CardScan Business Card Scanner will not be recognized by Windows XP 64-Bit Edition

Cause:

Windows XP x64 can run most 32-bit programs, including CardScan, without any modification, but it requires 64-bit drivers to communicate with devices. CardScan's device drivers are not marked 64-bit compatible, so you can install and run the CardScan software, but the scanner doesn't work.

Solution:

If you have the CardScan 700c scanner, you can follow the instructions below to download and install a driver for Windows XP 64-Bit Edition.

The CardScan 700c uses the standard USBSCAN.SYS driver that comes with Windows and it is actually 64-bit compatible, but we did not officially certify the device for compatibility with Windows XP x64.

We will officially certify the CardScan 700c for compatibility with x64-based systems for a future release. In the meantime, you only need to replace the default .INF file with a new version that includes instructions for x64-based systems.

Here are the steps:

  1. Download and save to your desktop the 64 bit driver from here
  2. Download and install CardScan v7.0.3 or later. Earlier versions of CardScan use a custom driver that is not compatible with x64-based systems so v7.0.3 or later is required.
Towards the end of the installation, the setup program registers the scanner drivers, and because they lack the instructions for x64-based systems, Windows displays the warning: The software you are installing has not passed Windows logo testing to verify it's compatibility with this version of Windows.
This warning will appear four times. Choose STOP Installation each time to stop Windows from registering the drivers. (This merely stops the driver setup and doesn't affect anything else.)
  3. Copy cdscn700c_x64.inf to the CardScanSystemDrivers folder (e.g., C:Program Files (x86)CorexCardScanSystemDrivers).
  4. Connect the scanner and use the Found New Hardware wizard to install the driver from the CardScanSystemDrivers folder.

Access the link below to know the information about the compatibility of CardScan Personal with Windows 7,

Firstly, I would suggest you to verify with the CardScan Personal manufacturer if there are any updated drivers for Windows 7.

However, you may try to install the program in compatibility mode in Windows 7 by following the steps below:

1. Open the Program Compatibility Wizard by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Use an older program with this version of Windows.

2. Follow the instructions in the wizard.

If you cannot install a program, insert the installation disc for the program and, using the wizard, browse to the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The wizard is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.

To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the icon for the program, click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab. Select Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista and select the option to run as administrator. Click on Apply and Ok. Try to install the program again.
